Beginning Seminar
The Beginning Seminar includes making heads, hands, feet, shoes, and soft sculpted bodies. Students learn to work in polymer clay. Everything is provided during this three day class, to include clay, hair, eyes, armature, body stocking, and easy to follow handouts. Students leave with a completed doll. This seminar is given in forty different cities around the United States each year.
Beginning & Advanced Seminar
The Beginning & Advanced Seminar appeals to a wide audience, covering both beginning as well as many advanced topics. It includes making heads, hands, feet, shoes, and soft sculpted bodies. Students leave with a completed doll. This seminar is given in forty different cities around the United States each year.
Advanced Seminar
The Advanced Class is for those students who wish to continue learning the craft of making dolls in more detail. Great attention is given to realism, to include; portraits, children, babies, characters, and even fantasy dolls. Students completing this class are qualified to take the Masters Class.
Masters Seminar
The Masters Class is offered to serious students who wish to prepare themselves for a career in doll making. This class lasts an entire week. It is taught in Jack's studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. Master students complete a doll, to include the costume, presentation and accessories. One day is also dedicated to marketing and photography.
Professional Seminar
Participation in the Professional Class is by invitation only. Each year the top twelve artists from Jack's seminars are chosen to join this professional workshop. This intense, week-long class prepares the artists to show their dolls at Toy Fair, Expo, and Anahiem. The purpose of this class is to introduce the serious artist to the world of professional doll making through magazines, shows and networking with other professionals. This premier class is held only once a year.
Private Seminar
If you wish to speed along your progress toward becoming a professional doll maker you may wish to take a private class. The three day private courses are held upon request and time availability throughout the year. During the private class you will learn how to make the head, hands, shoes, body, hair, makeup/paint, costume, professional stand and photography. You will leave the class with a finished doll including the costume, hidden stand and a photo ready for publication.The private classes are not for everyone, they are only for those who are serious about becoming a professional doll maker. The curriculum for the private course is the same as the courses given to the Masters and Professional students, only it is one-on-one.
The course includes airfare to Utah from any location in the USA, lodging and meals. Mr. Johnston will meet you at the airport and see that you are well cared for during your stay. The cost of the three day private course is $3,000 including airfare, board and room. If you wish you may take the class without airfare, board and room for $2,000.
