ProSculpt Safety Statement
We, at ProSculpt, are very concerned for the safety of our customers while using our products. ProSculpt does continue to contain phthalates to keep the same properties of the clay you know and love. We take every precaution to assure that ProSculpt is safe for sculpting dolls and other figures. All polymer clay companies are members of the Art and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI). Before they are granted the right to bear the ACMI certification seals, all art material products in the program undergo extensive toxicological evaluation by Duke University and testing as required by the Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA). Under the law, the product must be evaluated for both acute and chronic hazards and all art materials must conform to ASTM D 4236, the chronic hazard labeling standard, and deemed safe for consumer use.
ProSculpt has been tested and conforms to ASTM D 4236 and carries the ACMI CL seal since it does contain phthalates. However, according to the toxicological assessment, ProSculpt contains no hazardous component or contaminant level or effect of the product itself that would require acute or chronic hazard labeling to conform to ASTM D 4236, LHAMA or the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. It is not a toxic or hazardous substance. By toxicological assessment, ProSculpt is not required to label under California’s Proposition 65 but we have voluntarily chosen to include this statement on the label to better inform our customers about the product. As long as you follow the instructions on the back label of a bar of ProSculpt, you will have a safe and healthy experience using our clay.
Since ProSculpt is an art material, not a toy and marketed for adult use, it is considered exempt from the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
For more information on ACMI, visit their website at www.acminet.org. For information on the use of phthalates in polymer clays, please refer to the ACMI website for safety of polymer clays at http://www.acminet.org/ACMI_Response_Polymer.htm.
I've enclosed a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). If you have further questions you may call me personally at 800-290-9998. I look forward to serving you with a healthy and enjoyable product for years to come. Jack Johnston, President of The ProSculpt Company.
