Subject:A Christmas story for my artist friends... short, but worth reading.

Christmas is a very special time of year. I often think of it as being far too commercialized (and it is), but then I remember why we have the holiday. The remembrance of Christ and the true reason to give. Giving and receiving gifts to those we love gives me a special feeling that over comes the negatives in life. I remember one year 38 years ago, it wasn't possible to be with my family that year and sending or receiving gifts was not practical. That year I chose to take care of a poor family that didn't have anything, they didn't even have enough food to eat. I bought them some food and gifts for all of the children. The joy that I saw in their faces is still there today. They weren't even Christians, but they understood the meaning of Christmas and the giving spirit that was in my heart and they were grateful. That made me feel so good about life and giving that I forgot that I was living in a tent in the jungles of South Vietnam. Merry Christmas. Your friend, Jack Johnston

Thank you for the touching Christmas story Jack! You know, this year the most fun I had shopping for Christmas presents was when I bought for some residents at a local nursing home. My nephew is a nurse there and they have an angel tree set up and the public can pick an angel and buy a gift for them. Cory(my nephew), gave me two elderly ladies' names and he told me that one wanted a baby doll and the other needed warm clothes. So, I had a wonderful time picking a sweet vinyl Berenguer baby with a puppy for the one woman ,and a warm sweat suit for the other lady. It was such a pleasant, nice feeling to buy for someone in need. And to imagine how they will feel when they open the gifts from "Santa Claus".

Thanks Chris and Rene for your comments. It is nice just to read about good things for a few days. I guess it is like Elvis said in his song, "wouldn't it be nice if everyday was Christmas". There are stories about the warriors on the battlefield during World War II stopped fighting for one day. They joined together on that special day and toasted one another as fellow Christians. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and pray for peace in our time. Please, feel free to write your Christmas story, this is one time of year that your comments don't have to be about dolls. My pups and I celebrate Christams with My husband out to se, not the first time. We are lucky through technology now to talk on the phone so it was nice too hear his voice. A gift to us all. I sent off in a moses basket tin babies with all their needs for a little girl to find on her front door steps. My note was for her to love and care for them. I remember when I was little and my favorite baby as a child layed beneath the tree in a blanket. I couldn't put him down the rest of the day...This little girls Mummy was so overwhelmed knowing how hard I work on my babies and all that they came with.I told her Merry Christmas, let her play and have fun and we hugged goodbye. I started years ago baking and going through the neighborhood wishing the neighbors Merry Christmas with my dogs, my husband has been away so much through the years this brought joy to me to share with others. Anyway, it ha spread and now they all do it too and I have so much Yummies my waste line will be looking like Santa!!!! Well just wanted to wsh all a Joyous New year to come 20008!!!Sue

I was in Beverly Hills the other day and had to stop to put gasoline in my car before starting for home (about 30 minutes North if there's no traffic; an hour or more with). A woman was leaning against a wall with her back to me, watching some sort of activity in the field on the other side. She was dressed in many layers of shabby dirty garments and was standing next to a shopping cart filled with her 'things'. I filled up my tank and then checked my purse for cash. I normally don't give money to panhandlers, but this woman was different; she wasn't begging. She was just minding her own business, but it was clear she could use some help. I started my car and drove up close to where she was standing. I rolled down my window, caught her attention, and asked if I could help her. She acted very surprised to have someone talk to her and ask her such a question. I gave her the only cash I had (a ten dollar bill) and she nearly cried when she saw it. She blessed me many times and appeared genuinely thankful. In all the times I've handed money to people on the street, I've never felt it was as appreciated as it seemed to be this time. It may not have made a big or lasting difference in this woman's life, but I certainly felt more human and caring for having done it. Maybe I needed that moment more than she did.

That is a wonderful story, Jack! Thank you for sharing! Every year my family buys Christmas presents for at least one needed child. Our kids enjoy going and buying gifts for that little boy or girl who wouldn't have had anything under the tree. I just love the thought of those needed children on Christmas morning opening their presents and the joy they will have. Have a Merry Christmas! Jen
